3D design software company Browzwear has partnered with material digitization specialist Vizoo to establish an open source format called Unified 3D Material (u3m), aiming to standardize digital materials and bridge software applications in the fashion industry.
The u3m format employs a physically-based rendering (PBR) shading model for consistent visual appearance across applications, streamlining material sharing and integration. This collaboration addresses the industry's need for a unified fabric format, facilitating efficient exchange of fabric information among vendors and suppliers, with anticipated integrations into 3D CAD and rendering applications.
